Project Description / Scope of Works

The purpose of the works was to clear back dangerous trees identified by NWR Off Track Team. Due to the poor health of the trees and the close proximity to the running line, QTS felled all vegetation back to NWR boundary fence line to eliminate the risk of damage to the infrastructure. QTS undertook this work with a 4man team comprising of RRV Valmet Forwarder Operator, Machine Controller and 2nr Chainsaw Operators. All arisings were cleared and dispersed back on to the slope.

Key Issues

• Working within a T3 Safeguarded Possession due to condition of trees and limited access/egress for road going plant & equipment. Access limited to 4 hour possession on Sunday 13th November 2011.
• Large diameter trees of which a large amount of heavy timber was  generated.
• Manual Handling eliminated using the RR Valmet c/w Crane and Log Grab attachment. Chainsaw Operators felled trees in advance of the RRV then cleared all debris from track bed using leaf blowers.
