Bishopton East Soil Cutting

Earthworks Enhancements Case Study

At Bishopton East, both Up and Down sides of the cutting were exhibiting historical problems which had the potential for further movement.  On the down side, a wide crest allowed a re-grade solution to be implemented, however on the upside access was limited and soil nails were installed to avoid difficult land negotiations.

This design and build project was delivered as part of the RCDP (Scotland) Earthworks Contract.  Delivered within 5 months following extensive S.I. and design approvals, 6,000T of stone was placed on the excavated down slope, with over 10,000m of soil nails installed and 4,000m2 of associated Tecco mesh.  By setting up a safe system of work, QTS were able to maximise day-shift working (with trains running), minimising costs and reducing safety risk to our operatives.  Our own isolation staff carried out a return conductor isolation for the duration of the works.
