Drainage Case Study

This Scheme is located near Buxton and consist of a 900m section of tunnel which has suffered from extensive drainage issues for numerous years.

QTS was commissioned to replace the existing 6ft drain using a reinforced concrete drainage channel. Following track removal of the Down line by Babcock Rail, QTS installed a large over pumping system and started the permanent works. The water volume proved to be substantially more onerous than experienced and the construction of the existing drain was different to the original design. Additional over pumping equipment were mobilised and the methodology changed to suit these conditions. Despite the challenges, QTS managed to continually improve productivity and completed the proposed works within the allowed programme.
