Success through collaboration
April 2020
Close collaboration between the teams at QTS and AMCO Giffen was in evidence last weekend when the combined team successfully brought to a conclusion a challenging drainage project at Severn Tunnel.
Following emergency works at Christmas, AmcoGiffen and QTS developed a programme to deliver drainage repairs and maintenance to the existing Severn tunnel drainage system. Improvement and enhancement works were carried out over a 9 day blockade during the Easter period.
Taking into account the challenging constraints of keeping everyone safe from Covid-19, works were undertaken around the clock for 9 days.
Planned works involved:
5 chambers completely rebuilt
21 flowforge cage installations
9 chambers increased height
26T of ballast jetted and vacuumed
Use of RRV’s to carry an additional 8000 litres of water
Efficient use of RRV’s to remove ballast and debris
Network Rail Capital Delivery Programme Manager, Chris Howchin stated: "Thank you so far to AMCO, QTS and your teams hard work in Severn tunnel. Feedback from the site managers has been really positive so far. They’re impressed with how the teams are all taking personal responsibility for their welfare and PPE at these really tough times. Great job, well done and thank you.”
