QTS eye up support for NHS frontline workers

April 2020

National rail infrastructure maintenance firm, QTS Group, has pledged further support during the COVID-19 crisis by donating protective eyewear to NHS frontline workers.

In partnership with Network Rail Scotland’s Works Delivery team, QTS has donated 40 pairs of Bolle safety glasses, plus additional boxes of safety goggles, to the Adult Theatre team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

In addition, QTS has joined 3D Crowd, a group of almost 5,000 volunteers around the UK who are using 3D printers to supply face shields for NHS staff.

Research & Design engineer, Dr Hassan Al-Budairi, has been working to utilise the company’s 3D printer to create the shields’ frames (top headbands and bottom reinforcements) that will be carefully packaged and sent to a central hub in Sheffield. From there, the frames will be assembled with clear visors to create the face shields which will then be distributed to frontline NHS staff.

Managing Director of QTS, Alan McLeish, commented:

“Not only is QTS helping to keep the railway moving by carrying out essential works on behalf of our client, but we’re also keen to continue helping the community where we can. So far, we’ve made monetary donations to foodbanks and charities in our local office areas, but we’re also now doing our bit to support frontline workers.

“This is a time when as a business, a community and a nation we all need to pull together to help each other as much as possible and I’m glad that we have been able to provide some protective equipment to the NHS staff during this difficult period.”
