Since the inception of the programme, QTS is proud to have supported a selection of top athletes. Here are some of the incredible athletes who spent some valuable years as part of the programme but have moved onto bigger and better things!

Lewis Gibson and Lilah fear are Ice Dancers aiming for stardom representing the UK on a world-wide platform. The pair achieved European, World and Olympic qualifying scores in first season together and are hot tipped to have the potential to be the next Torvill and Dean. They were members of the QTS Youth Athlete Programme between 2016 and 2022.

Scott Quin

Parasport Swimmer, 100m Breaststroke

Scott Quin is a double Paralympic medalist in the SB14 100 Breastroke category the silver medal in this event at the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020. He holds the world’s best time in SB14 200m Breaststroke. Scott was part of the QTS Youth Athlete for 7 years until 2022.

Cody McManus

Boxer

Cody from Duddingston, has been boxing since the age of five. He will turn 11 this year and will be old enough to compete with Boxing Scotland, a goal he has been working for ever since he donned his first pair of gloves.

Inspired by Scottish professional boxer Josh Taylor after watching him in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Cody’s mum Denise decided to approach the local boxing club, Holyrood Boxing Gym.

Alongside his sporting aspirations, Cody is always thinking of his next fundraising challenge to support those less advantaged. In previous years, Cody’s Christmas Toybox, a charity event to give disadvantaged children Christmas presents, filled a boxing ring with £12,000 worth of toys and has received the support of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Harry McGarvie

Cyclo Cross Rider

Harry first took up cycling when he was just 10-years-old and began competing in cyclocross five years ago. Cyclocross involves a mixture of off-road terrains and obstacles designed to force riders to dismount, and even carry their bikes.

Since becoming a member of the Ayr Burners, Harry has topped the table at the CX North East England series, as well as consistently reaching the top five positions in races co-ordinated by the Scottish Cyclocross Association, including Cross at the Castle and The Bike Shed Bute.

Nicole Ritchie

Nicole is an Alpine Skier, competing hard to pull up her rankings and make her dream of competing in a winter games come true. This season has been great for her with her rankings breaking the top 10 in all of her disciplines with a 4th in the Slalom, 6th in the Giant Slalom and 9th in the Super G.

Alyson is a Scottish Ladies Tour professional golfer and it fast becoming one of the UK’s most successful female golfers. With big aims, keep your eyes peeled for Alyson at the Ricoh Female Open 2016.

Ben Kilner is a half-pipe snowboarder. The 8x British Champion and world Cup bronze medallist has represented team GB at 2 winter games already. Ben retired from the sport in 2017, after a hugely successful career. Ben now focuses his attention on his business and spends a lot of time helping young athletes.

Blair Brown, a BRC Rally driver and hot tipped up and comer is making a huge name for himself in the Rallying circuit. The Scottish born champion is currently the first driver to compete in M-sport world rally team Fiesta R2 Ecoboost. Blair retired in 2017 after deciding to focus on his studies. He is always there to help and advise other athletes on their careers.

Ewan Moore

Ewan Moore, the former British Junior No.1 Tennis Player, has recently went pro and started competing the gentlemen’s rankings. With Wimbledon and the Australian open under his belt already, Ewan is aiming for his first appearance at the French and a return to Wimbledon in 2016.

Joe Ham is a Super Bantamweight boxer from Glasgow. Trained by his father at his Hayfield Boxing Club, Joe works hard to ensure he is at his physical peak. With 102 wins out of 130 fights, Joe is aiming for boxing stardom. The 10 x Scottish Amateur Champion and 2 x British Amateur Champion has already achieved so much. Representing Scotland worldwide, Joe is becoming one of the country’s biggest boxing success stories. As a member of the Scottish commonwealth team, Joe did well representing his country in the 2014 games.

Kieran McMaster, is a Senior Amateur Boxer and is the current British Amateur Silver medallist. Kieran travelled worldwide representing Scotland and Northwest ABC in 2015, where his boxing saw him travel to England, Wales, Serbia, Poland, Portugal, Kosovo and the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa. Kieran picked up the Gold medal and best bout of the Lah Nimani Tournament in Kosovo and the Bronze Medal at the Youth Commonwealth games.

Olivia Vareille

Olivia is a mid-distance track runner, favouring the 800m discipline. At only 16, she is one of the country’s up and coming talents and currently ranks no.1 in Scotland for her age group. She won her first vest for Scotland in 2015 and her big dream is to represent her country in the commonwealth games.
